Was oben stehen muss

A truck driver resume opens with the license: CDL class, endorsements, any restrictions, and a current DOT medical card. Straight after that comes the safety record in numbers, such as miles without a preventable accident, clean roadside inspections and no hours-of-service violations. Then say what kind of driving you do (local, regional or over-the-road) and which trailers you know.

Warum dieses Beispiel funktioniert

  • The license class and the endorsements are in the first line with their letter codes, because a driver recruiter filters on them before reading anything else.
  • Safety is shown with figures a carrier can check against its own records: miles without a preventable accident, clean roadside inspections, no hours-of-service violations.
  • Each job gives the type of run (dedicated regional or over-the-road), the trailer and the weekly miles, so a recruiter can match the driver to a lane.
  • The medical card carries the month it expires, which answers the first question a safety department asks about any new hire.

Kurzprofile

  • New CDL driver

Newly licensed Class A CDL driver (2026) who completed entry-level driver training at a school on FMCSA's Training Provider Registry, with behind-the-wheel practice in a 53-foot dry van and a clean driving record. Six years as a warehouse forklift operator, at home on loading docks and delivery schedules. Open to regional or OTR runs with a carrier that trains new drivers.

Without driving experience, the school, a clean record and any work around trucks or docks are the evidence. Say plainly which runs you will take, since carriers hire new drivers for particular lanes.

  • Local Class B delivery driver

Class B CDL delivery driver with five years on local routes for a beverage distributor, making 14 to 18 stops a day and unloading by hand truck, with a clean MVR. Kept delivery accuracy at 99.5% and was named the branch's route driver of the year in 2025.

For local work, stops a day, physical unloading and dealing with customers count as much as miles. Name the truck type and the kind of customer, such as stores, restaurants or job sites.

  • Driver trainer or senior OTR driver

Class A driver and driver trainer with 16 years and 1.9 million miles without a preventable accident, holding tank and hazmat endorsements. Has trained 40 new drivers on the road for a national carrier, 34 of whom were still driving for it a year later.

At this level, total safe miles, specialized freight and the drivers you have trained are the headline. Put the mileage figure in the first sentence.

Über die Erfahrung hinaus

CDL classes, endorsements and the medical card

A driver recruiter checks three things first: the license class, the endorsements the freight needs, and a current medical certificate. FMCSA sets the federal standards and your state issues the license, so list each item by its official name and letter.

  • CDL class

Class A covers combinations of 26,001 pounds or more where the towed unit is over 10,000 pounds, such as a tractor-trailer. Class B covers single vehicles of 26,001 pounds or more. Class C covers smaller vehicles built for 16 or more passengers or carrying placarded hazardous materials. Write the class with the issuing state, such as "Class A CDL, Tennessee".

Ausgestellt von Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration

  • Endorsements and restrictions

Each endorsement has a letter: T for double or triple trailers, P for passengers, N for tank vehicles, H for hazardous materials, X for tank and hazmat combined, and S for school buses. Give both the letter and the name, since postings use both, and mention any restriction that limits you, such as the E code for automatic transmission only.

Ausgestellt von Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration

  • Entry-level driver training

Since February 7, 2022, drivers getting a Class A or B CDL for the first time, upgrading from B to A, or adding an S, P or H endorsement for the first time must complete entry-level driver training, which is recorded in FMCSA's Training Provider Registry. A new driver should name the school and the month the training ended.

Ausgestellt von Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration

  • DOT medical card

The Medical Examiner's Certificate comes from a medical examiner listed on FMCSA's National Registry and is valid for up to 24 months, or for less when the examiner wants to monitor a condition such as high blood pressure. Write "DOT medical card, valid through" and the month.

Ausgestellt von Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration

  • Driving record

A carrier pulls your motor vehicle record itself, but a line such as "clean MVR, no preventable accidents in five years" in the summary tells the recruiter what to expect before the check comes back.

Vorlage

Welche Vorlage für den Lebenslauf: a truck driver

Basic. Carriers recruit through job boards and online driver applications, and many drivers apply from a phone between loads. Basic puts the license, endorsements and safety record in one plain column that those systems read in order and that stays easy to read on a small screen. It is also the layout that downloads free without our watermark.

Fragen zum Lebenslauf: Truck Driver

How do you list a CDL on a resume?

In the first line of the summary and again in the certifications section, with the class, the endorsement letters and the issuing state, for example "Class A CDL, Tennessee, endorsements T and X". Add the DOT medical card with its expiry month on the next line, and any restriction that limits which trucks you can drive.

What's a good summary for a truck driver resume?

Three facts: your CDL class and endorsements, your years and type of driving, and your safety record in miles or years. For example: "Class A driver with five years of regional reefer runs and 500,000 miles without a preventable accident." A recruiter can match that to a lane in seconds.

What skills should I include on a CDL driver resume?

The equipment and freight you know (dry van, reefer, flatbed, tanker), inspections and paperwork (pre-trip checks, DVIRs, bills of lading), hours-of-service rules and the ELD you have used, plus backing and docking. Two or three soft skills are enough, such as punctuality and communication with dispatch.

How do I write a truck driver resume with no experience?

Put the CDL, the school where you completed entry-level driver training, and a clean driving record at the top. Then list jobs that show you handle equipment, schedules or freight, such as warehouse, forklift, delivery or construction work, and say which runs you are willing to take.
