18 synonyms, and when to use each

"Abetted" implies a crime, and "Aided" is "Assisted" with fewer letters and the same problem.

The one thing to remember

Keep "assisted" only where the assisting is the credential — "assisted in 140 orthopedic surgeries" is a real qualification for a surgical tech — and always give the count.
